Course on blogging - might be free for you

Friday, December 21st, 2007

I’m evaluating a multi-media course on blogging from the folks at Simpleology. For a while, they’re letting you snag it for free if you post about it on your blog.

It covers:

  • The best blogging techniques.
  • How to get traffic to your blog.
  • How to turn your blog into money.

I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had a chance to check it out. Meanwhile, go grab yours while it’s still free.

I just love the reasoning behind this promo ;-) Go and check it out!

Contests On Your Blog

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

You can attract commends and readers in many ways.

John Chow often uses contests - even though he actually always gets a huge amount of comments to his posts. This is probably due to his very special personality, which you most likely either hate or love.

Make Updating Of Your Blogging Script And Plugins Easy

Tuesday, March 27th, 2007

If you are hosting your own blogs, and they are created with WordPress or another blogging script, you should make it easy for yourself to update the script, whenever there’s a newer version. Failing to do that can cost you a lot of trouble, because there are often security holes in those popular scripts, and it’s easy for script kiddies to gain access to your server, if you do not keep your blogging script updated. Here’s how to make the process easy:

Get Inspiration: From Zero To $7,000 In Six Months

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

Don’t you just love it when you hear about other people’s succes? I do! It gives me hope, especially when I hear about someone going from nothing to a nice income.

Well, we all know the gurus make money. Of course they were not born gurus, but we tempt to forget this fact. “It’s easy for them”, we say, and then we have a fine excuse for doing nothing ourselves.

John Chow is not a guru. He didn’t even intend his blog to make money. He’s a living creature, like you and me, but he’s smart! He took action.

In September last year he started putting AdSense on his blog, and actually had a fine income that month. The following month he added other income streams, and made much more. Last month, February, the shortest month of the year, John made a new record: More than $7,000.

They didn’t come from AdSense alone, though, and John didn’t made that much money from lying on the beach.

Take a look at his blog, learn from it and from John. Read about his journey from zero to hero. John Chow - Making Money From a Blog.

What Should You Blog About?

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

As mentioned earlier you can get inspiration from titles in papers and magazines, when you are looking for subjects to blog about, and here are some suggestions:

* If you blog about gadgets, and a new iPhone has come out, write about it. This should be quite obvious.
* If you blog about celebreties, and Britney Spears shave her head, then blog about it.
* If you blog about making money online, and you learn about something new that can make profits, blog about it.
* If you blog about cats, and you read about a cat safe keyboard, blog about it.

People love news! But don’t just copy some news and put it on your blog. Write about it in your own tone of voice, or use your own introduction, if you quote something from another blog.

Remember: Be personal in your postings. Speak out.

Inspiration For Your Blog - Get A Blog Pad

Wednesday, February 28th, 2007

One of the most reputated and well-known pro-bloggers is Darren Rowse. He makes well over $14,000 a month, but for the last four years he has written 14 blog postings a day, seven days a week. This guy is really serious about blogging. But less can do it, if you do it in your spare time.

How about two postings a day? Six days a week? Couldn’t you do that, you suppose?

But how do you find inspiration for two posts a day that people would want to read?

In The Supermarked

Each time you are in the supermarked or in a kiosk you should check the titles on the frontpage of newspapers and magazinez. Are there any that has to do with your subject? If papers and magazines put it on the front page there are big changes that this would be of interest for people. Of course, you should not write exactly the same, but it could inspire you to a blog posting.

Conversations

Talk to others. What are they interested in? What do you have in common? For us it happens often that we talk about something exiting at the dinner table, and most probably there would be something to blog about afterwards.

Remember What You Want To Blog About

Here comes the difficult part: I’ve ofte - quite often, actually - thought: THIS I’ll blog about. And then I’ve totally forgotten what is was that inspired me. Too bad!

Therefore you should buy a little note pad you can have with you all the time. Use a small ballpen or pencil with it. Use it extensively every time you get inspired. Then you can pick and choose between your ideas and easily write your two postings a day.

It works for me!

Are You Blogging Only To Make Money?

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

Today I read in a blog that we all blogged to make money. But do we really? And do we have to?

If you only blog to make money, and always make sure to have the right keywords in the title and in the text, the content risks to be stiff and boring. Result = Your guests are leaving, and you make no money.

It’s much better to blog to pass on experiences, news, information, etc.

Write, write, write!

When you have written the draft, you can start thinking about having keywords in the title and in the text, but don’t overdo it. Use it to bring variation into your language. Let’s say that you are writing about how to make money on the net. In order not to use the same phrases over and over again, you can alternate between “make money online”, “earn money on the Internet”, “make profits online” etc. This is not to stuff the text with as many keywords as possible, but to vary your language.

Read the text aloud. Does it sound stiff and boring? Or alive and interessting? Only when the latter is the case should you push Publish.

Well, I Guess You Didn’t Know That About Britney Spears - Learn What She Can Teach You About Blogging

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

This is awesome! Blogger Kumiko Suzuki has written a very funny and interesting article about Britney Spears, and what you can learn from her and use when you are blogging. I must confess that I don’t know much about Britney Spears, but it certainly was enough to enjoy this post AND to learn from it.

You should read it. We tend to learn faster, when the subject is told with humor: Make Money Online at Kumiko’s Cash Quest: 6 Lessons Britney Spears Can Teach You About Blogging

How to get more traffic to your blog

Friday, February 23rd, 2007

In the first place there has to be people visiting your blog. I’ve dealt with that elsewhere. But when you have readers, you will want them to come back, often, and hopefully click on your ads. How can you do that?
